There is a problem in the United States that does not get a lot of attention. There is a shortage of qualified individuals who choose nursing careers as their main occupation. Nationally, we have a newly estimated 150,000 shortage in qualified nursing practitioners. In 5 to 10 years it will grow to approximately 400,000. Even worse, at the rate we are going, it is estimated that we will have over 800,000 nursing positions to fill by the year 2020. As the U.S. population grows older, this will affect everyone individually. It is a not just a national problem but a worldwide pandemic problem that needs to be dealt with aggressively
